Thank you for visiting my website. I appreciate that reaching out for help is a big step and can come with a sense of uncertainty and even anxiety. When life becomes challenging and overwhelming or things that we thought had been laid to rest resurface , seeking therapy in a confiding and compassionate space can be a great source of support and provide much needed arena to share your thoughts and feelings as a way of finding inner peace and greater resolve to move forward with your life in a more satisfying way.
People often ask what is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy. They are both talking therapies, however I see counselling as being more short term and solution focused and well suited for clients who wish to talk through a particular issue that may be troubling them (usually 6-12 sessions). Psychotherapy, on the other hand, I see as a more long-term in depth exploration of the person's problems and concerns.
Both counselling and psychotherapy are a way of gaining insight into the difficulties people face in their lives. Therapy offers a safe , confidential space to help find solutions to problems and to begin living a life with more clarity and meaning. Through the exploration of our feelings, thoughts, beliefs, hopes, fears, and our relationships we gain more awareness of ourselves and others and of the various possibilities and choices we may have in our current circumstances, which allow us to consider changes in our behaviour.
